Book Box Review: LitCube September Box – Haunted Hearts

I discovered this book box via LitCube’s instagram account (@LitCube), and simply had to try it (the coupon code on offer certainly didn’t hurt!). LitCube offers a variety of books and genres, not just YA, which was a plus for me, as most of the boxes out there with neat stuff seem to cater solely to the YA crowd. This box is instead aimed at the book geek who enjoys getting cool stuff in the mail (in an awesome green box!).

Opening the box, I found a beautifully wrapped stack of goodies, with info cards on the box and its contents. (September’s theme was Haunted Hearts, with a gothic novel and related goodies, how could I resist?)

The featured book in this box is The Architect of Song by A.G. Howard, a novel in the gothic tradition featuring damaged heroines, tragic heroes, ghosts, and crumbling estates. I quite look forward to reading this some dreary afternoon. The box also included a beautiful leather bound journal embossed with a quote selected by A.G. Howard.

Other goodies in the box featured a signed bookplate, a pressed-flower necklace, some delightfully scented soap, a packet of hot chocolate, and an ink and quill set (!).

In all, I’m quite delighted with the box I received, and I have an order in for their limited edition Halloween box. Their October box also sounds intriguing (the theme is “Tale as Old as Time”, so I clearly need it!).

LitCube ships monthly for $34.95 (seems like a bargain, considering how much is in the box), and ships free to the United States (other countries will have to pay shipping). They also offer limited edition boxes several times per year ( the ones I know about are the Halloween box, and one called “Lost in Austen”). If you’re interested, they also offer a monthly box based on the Gilmore Girls. You can choose to order month-to-month or just get an automatically renewing subscription.
